VW/Audi Gasoline Direct Injection Operation and Diagnostics

This class will discuss operation and diagnostics of VW/Audi Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) system. These high pressure fuel systems have been in service since mid-2000. We will cover both the low pressure side and the high pressure side. The following components will be discussed:

- Low fuel pressure sensor (G410)
- Fuel pressure regulator valve (N276)
- High fuel pressure sensor (G247)

Technology Use in Garage Facilities

This seminar will cover model years 2003 to 2012, 211 and 230, SBC (Electronic Braking) basic operations. Followed by a brief explanation detailing the responsibilities of the SBC system components. We will discuss how to properly deactivate the SBC unit without the SDS scan tool. What happens when the system goes in to fail safe mode and what to expect. What extra safety precautions are needed for automobiles equipped with Keyless Go. The correct way to bleed the SBC braking system with and without the SDS scan tool. Adaptive Braking and how it differs from the SBC system. Questions and comments will be addressed the last 15 minutes of class.

Ford Driveability

This class will discuss operation and diagnostics of three Ford systems: PATS (Immobilizer), Gasoline Direct Injection and F150 Ecoboost Twin Turbo.The Ford Passive Anti-Theft Systems (PATS) will be covered using a case study format. The vehicle is a 2008 Mercury Milan that is immobilized. Using both scan data and a lab scope, diagnostics techniques will be discussed showing how to isolate a faulty instrument luster, PATS Transceiver, PATS key and wiring.
The second topic will be Ford’s Gasoline Direct Injection systems that were introduced in the 2010 model year. Topics to be covered include the low pressure fuel system, the high pressure fuel pump, the fuel volume regulator and the high pressure fuel injectors. A strong emphasis will be placed on testing techniques using both the scan tool and a lab scope.
The final topic is Ford’s twin turbo system found on the Ecoboost 3.5L V6’s. We will discuss operation and testing procedures. The turbo, wastegate, bypass valve, vacuum regulator valve and the 3 pressure/temp sensor will be explained. A detailed handout will be provided.
